Ripple assigns Answer Digital as Technical Custodian for its Open Source Code
Ripple assigns the technical custodian role of the open source integrated digital care platform code to Answer Digital. Work is advancing quickly in the open source health and care economy and Ripple’s vision to create an open source platform leaps another step forward by appointing Answer Digital as code-custodian, providing assurance of the code.
Ripple is building an international community that is collaborating to create an integrated digital care record that allows frontline staff access to the most up to date and joined up care information about an individual – driving better and safer care.
Answer Digital will use their extensive enterprise architecture experience to insure the integrity, scalability and maintainability of the Ripple platform. Code Custodianship is essential practice for a scalable, robust open source initiative that aims to gain adoption across the World.
As code is produced by the widening Ripple community for new features and functions, the quality and approach taken is reviewed against industry best practise, and the ‘Gold Standard’ core code is assured.
Dr Tony Shannon, programme director for Ripple, commented “Work is moving at a pace for Ripple and having the technical expertise of Answer Digital adds real value to our work. Ripple provides a platform that is secure and stable, but is also scalable and adaptable. We are disrupting how people procure their IT solutions because our blend of open source and open standards provides a solution that allows clinicians to shape the technology to their own requirements. We are aware that health and care requires a complex change to meet the demand. We need a mix of clinicians, managers and technical teams to work together – engaging with Answer Digital as our technical custodian meets one of these objectives and means our code is in very safe hands.”
Andy Williams, Managing Principal, Answer Digital said, “We fully support Ripple’s mission to create an open source integrated digital care record and we are proud to take care of the code in this critical role. We will provide guidance on technology choices and assurance against standards, whilst merging valuable contributions to improve the product for the benefit of the global community. Our passion is to help organisations use technology to be better at what they do.”
