The project team behind Ripple is small, but we are committed to delivering an impact that will be felt worldwide - hence the name. Ripple works closely with a wide range of clinical, business and technical communities to support this drive towards an open platform.
Dr Tony Shannon
Programme Director, Ripple
My background as an Emergency Physician has been a great foundation for all my learning. It has helped me understand that amidst the complexity of the world we live in, there is real value in harnessing simple patterns. As I have been fortunate to have had a variety of perspectives on some common challenges, I thought I should start to share them which I do via my blog at frectal.com.
My work now involves providing Leadership & Consultancy around:
- Complex Systems & Organisation Change
- Clinical Leadership, Process Improvement and Information Technology in Healthcare
- Electronic Health Records, Open Source & Open Standards in Healthcare IT
- Commissioning and Value for Money in Healthcare
Programme Manager, Ripple
I’ve worked within health informatics for over 5 years having previously worked in the financial sector and was instrumental in helping to deliver Leeds Care Record from concept to a fully operational integrated digital care record for the city. My passion is to help drive rapid change in the health and care system, to improve care outcomes by listening and involving clinicians, leaders and people from the beginning. There’s something much more fulfilling working in the health and care sector than others that I have worked in as you can make a real positive impact in this complex arena.
To continue working alongside Tony on Ripple felt like the natural move to allow us to develop an open source platform that we can share and collaborate with others on. Ripple has the potential to make a significant difference and the theory of thinking like a patient but spending like a tax payer has never been more true in how the programme operates.
Dr Ian McNicoll
Before becoming an independent consultant, I worked for many years GP in Scotland. I’ve been involved in healthcare informatics for nearly 30 years, working with and promoting openEHR technologies for the past 10 years. I work with a number of UK and international organisations and vendors. I’m also the co-chair of the international not-for-profit openEHR Foundation which maintains and promotes the openEHR specifications and other standards.
My current focus is on the promotion of the NHS Code4Health open e-health platform ecosystem, which sits underneath Ripple and has openEHR at its core, and the promotion of related openEHR ‘clinical modelling’ activities and training.
Before joining the NHS as a marketing consultant, I worked for a full service marketing agency with a range of clients from many sectors including sport, charities, retail, health, B2B, and financial services.
Since working for the NHS, I’ve been lucky to work alongside Tony and Phil to help with the engagement and communication for Leeds Care Record. I’ve also worked with Leeds Informatics Board for projects including Joined Up Leeds – which was part of the submission that won an HSJ Award 2015.
Ripple is an exciting piece of work which I’m proud to be a part of – it’s innovative, driving change and I believe will make a real difference to health and care.
UX / UI Consultant, Ripple
Prior to becoming part of the Ripple team, I founded a web design and development agency specialising in building intuitive, functional websites and web applications for a wide variety of businesses including local authorities, charities, startups, travel and tourism.
My 16 years of experience in online software has helped me appreciate the importance of good interface design. I hope to offer these skills to help make our user experience as intuitive, consistent yet as efficient as possible whilst at the same time listening to users and collaborating to ensure continual improvement.
I’m excited to be part of the Ripple platform and look forward to see it introduce positive and significant changes to health and care.
